Welcome
Welcome to Miss Mattis's Fun with Fractions website! I am so pleased to have been able to create this site for you and your fourth grade students. Recently we have begun our unit on fractions. According to the Common Core Standards, your child will need to "extend the understanding of fractions to show equivalence and ordering" (PA Common Core Standards for Mathematics CC.2.1.4.C.1) by the end of this year. Therefore, we will be focusing our fraction learning on equivalency and the ordering of fractions. My fellow fourth grade teachers and I have been discussing how important it is to incorporate literacy into our mathematics instruction in order for our students to master fraction skills and mathematics concepts in general. The purpose of this site is to incorporate literacy-rich content when teaching math. Therefore, I want to give you, as the parent/guardian, as many resources as possible in order to incorporate literacy-rich content at home, just as we are trying to focus on during the school day. We hope that keeping integration consistent between home and school will enforce how important literacy and mathematics are, especially together.
This website is designed as a resource for you and your children to access great vocabulary, children's books, word problems, activities, and games/apps that are geared towards our current unit on fractions. I have put together different pages on this site for each of these topics so that your child can get extra practice or experience with fraction concepts. Clicking on each of the links below or in the upper right side of this page (by clicking on more and then clicking on one of the tabs) will take you to each of the pages. Feel free to explore each link, and enjoy. Please contact me with any questions!

Meet Miss Mattis
Hello! My name is Jessica Mattis. I am twenty-one years old and I am from Lebanon, PA. I will be graduating from Millersville University in May 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and I will be certified to teach preschool to fourth grade students. I am engaged to my wonderful fiance, Michael Burns, and we will be getting married in Lewes, Delaware on July 27, 2013. I currently live in Lebanon with my parents and my younger brother, Joshua, and my ten year-old Shih Tzu, Jasmine. I love being at the beach, so summer is my favorite season of the year. My favorite food is buffalo wings and my favorite dessert is soft-serve frozen yogurt. I also love watching movies, swimming, and traveling. I've wanted to be an elementary teacher since fifth grade, when I was inspired by Mrs. Huber at Cornwall Elementary School. She had such a passion for teaching and she made learning enjoyable for every one of her students. Ever since then, I have wanted to make the same impact on children as she did on myself and many of her students. I am so thrilled to have your student in my class this year and I look forward to teaching your students in a way that will make them enjoy learning just as much as a did when I was in elementary school. I hope we can have a great rest of the year together and can continue to have a positive and fun learning experience both in school and at home!
